5. Can I mix and match the video and audio codecs outside of those defined in questions 1 through 4 above?
No you cannot. We only support each audio and video codec in the explicit containers defined in questions 1 through 4.

6. How can I determine if a video file that I am trying to play conforms to the specifications as laid out in questions 1 through 4?
You can use a 3rd party tool to analyze your video files to determine what audio and video codec is used. A popular 3rd party tool to analyze video files can be found at http://www.headbands.com/gspot/.

7. How do I create WMV, AVI, H.264 and MPEG-4 content? What encoders does Xbox 360 support?
You can create this content on one of many 3rd-party applications. Xbox 360 supports many popular encoders. Specifically for encoding to WMV you can use Microsoft Expression Encoder or Windows Media Encoder.

**8. What specific features of Mpeg-4 Advanced Simple Profile does the Xbox 360 support?
The Xbox 360 supports Bidirectional Frames (BVOPs), Interlaced Frames, Quarter Pixel Motion Compensation, Global Motion Compensation, and MPEG Quantization.

9. What are the different ways to play video content on Xbox 360?
You can play video from a USB 2.0 FAT32 removable drive, optical media, and by streaming from the Zune software, Windows Media Player 11, or Windows Home Server.

* = Please refer to question 32 on how to configure Windows Media Player to share these file types to the Xbox 360.

11. What is the "real" max bit rate, resolution, and frames per second that you support for all the different formats?
Xbox 360 does not specifically block video from playing based on a maximum bit rate, resolution, or frames per second. The maximums listed above for each codec are what we have tested for various video playback sources. Higher rated content will not be blocked, but playback may be less then optimal. Use higher bitrates at your own risk.

12. What size USB storage device does the Xbox 360 support?
The Xbox 360 will support as big of a storage device as you can format using FAT32. Unfortunately when formatting a device in Windows Vista or Windows XP you will be restricted to a maximum FAT32 size of 32GB. You can work around this limitation by using a 3rd party utility or using an alternative Operating System that does not have this restriction. Please note that the maximum size of any single file on FAT32 is 4GB.

13. What is the maximum video file size that is supported?
The maximum file size for an AVI, MPEG-4 Part 2, and H.264 file that can be played is 4 GB. 4GB is also the maximum size of any single file that you can store on a FAT32 USB hard drive. However, Windows Media Player 11 and the Zune software do support streaming WMV files greater than 4GB.

14. Do you support 5.1 channel AAC?
No. Only 2-channel AAC is supported. If you want to play a 5.1-channel video on your console, you will need to encode it to WMV with WMAPro 5.1 audio or use the AVI container with Dolby® Digital 5.1 audio.

**15. What types of AVI files are supported?
The Xbox 360 supports files encoded using MPEG-4 Part 2, Simple and Advanced Simple Profile. These files are often referred to as Xvid or DivX® video files. Many common PC DVD authoring tools, cameras, and camcorders are capable of encoding files using MPEG-4. Note that some files authored for DivX devices may also contain additional functionality(menus, subtitles, multiple audio tracks, etc). The Xbox 360 will attempt to play these files, but does not support any of the additional functionality and in some cases will be unable to play the file.

16. Why don’t some of my older versions of DivX® files play?
Since we only support Mpeg-4 compatible codec implementations, we will not be able to play video files older than DivX® 5.0.

17. Does the Xbox 360 support video artwork when browsing my collection from Windows Media Player 11 or the Zune PC software?
The Xbox 360 will display whatever video artwork that is displayed in Windows Media Player 11 or the Zune PC software for each video file.

**18. Does the Xbox 360 support video artwork when browsing my collection from a USB 2.0 FAT32 removable drive or optical media?
For all video types we will search for a corresponding .jpg file and use that as the artwork. For example video1.avi would display the artwork in video1.jpg if it existed. In the absence of this file, for the mp4 container, we will search if the video file has embedded album artwork and display that instead. Please note you cannot use this method when streaming from Windows Media Player 11 or the Zune PC software. See question number 21 for more information.

19. What is the maximum album artwork size that the Xbox 360 supports?
You should not exceed 512KB for all scenarios. This includes embedding artwork in the mp4 container, storing artwork alongside the file in a separate .jpg container, or streaming from Windows Media Player 11 or Zune PC software.

**20. How does the “Sort by Type” and “Sort by Title” option work when browsing my own generated video content?
The “Sort by Type” option is the typical Windows Explorer view that a computer would show your files in. It will first alphabetically sort your folders and then alphabetically sort your files. The “Sort by Title” option allows you to sort all folders and files alongside each other. Both of these sort options are persistent and linked to your profile so that you do not need to set them every time. See question number 21 for more information.

**21. What is a sample way of organizing my video hierarchy so that I can best utilize artwork and folder structure on the Xbox 360 for my personal video collection?
The following example uses the sort option “Sort by Title” on a USB hard drive connected to the Xbox 360:
· Genre 1 (Folder)
· Genre 2 (Folder)
· Video 1.avi (File)
· Video 1.jpg (File) (Artwork)
· Video 2.mp4 (File) (Artwork embedded in file)
· Video 3 (Folder)
· Video 3-1.wmv (File)
· Video 3-2.mp4 (File)
· Video 3-2.jpg (File) (Artwork)
· Video 3-3.wmv (File)
· Video 3-3.jpg (File) (Artwork)
· Genre 3 (Folder)

22. How do display modes work?
There are 5 display modes: auto, letterbox, fullscreen, stretch, and native. You can access these modes while watching a video by pressing Display on your remote or A on your controller.
a. The auto setting attempts to automatically determine what the best viewing experience is for your video. If it is a very low resolution video, it will enlarge it enough to be viewable on your screen while limiting the size for optimal viewing. If the video is of higher resolution, it will it will enlarge it to fit the TV. For both scenarios, it will retain the aspect ratio of the original video (for example, 4x3 or 16x9).
b. Letterbox mode will display your image full screen while retaining the aspect ratio of the original video. Use this if you want to override the auto function and fit the content to your TV.
c. Fullscreen mode will display your image full screen with the assumption the video is 16x9 formatted for 4x3 screens. This can be helpful for older content that may be 4x3 with black bars encoded into the video. This mode will allow you to zoom through the black bars and see it as wide screen.
d. Stretch mode will display your image full screen and stretch 4x3 content horizontally to fill a 16x9 TV. This can be helpful for those who always want to fill their TV regardless of the aspect ratio of the content. This causes 4x3 content to appear stretched.
e. Native mode allows you to see the content at its original resolution. Use this to view content that is extremely low resolution or very low bitrates.

23. How are display mode settings saved?
Every time you watch a new video, the display mode defaults to auto. If you decide to change the setting, each time you watch the same video the console will remember what you chose last time.

24. What is the information bar?
The information bar on the on-screen display now shows you exactly where you are in the video and where the chapters are in the file. In addition, for downloaded content, it will also show how much of the video has been downloaded.

25. How are the chapters determined?
Each video is divided into 10 chapters, allowing you to quickly move around the video content. Use skip to move to the next or previous chapter. Each chapter appears as a tick on the information bar.

**26. Can I fast forward, rewind, and skip while watching content while it's being downloaded from Xbox Live Marketplace?
You can move around in video as much as you have already downloaded. If you skip or watch past the point that you have already downloaded, you will be required to wait for it to buffer enough to begin normal playback again.

27. Is there other 3rd party software out that I can use to stream from my PC to my Xbox 360?
The Xbox 360 team extensively tests that we work well with Windows Media Player 11 and the Zune PC software. If you do decide to use 3rd party software, please contact them directly for support.

28. How can I stream content from my Mac?
To share from a Mac computer you will be required to use a 3rd party streaming solution. Please note that we do not support 3rd party streaming solutions and you will be required to contact them directly for support.

29. After the May 2007 update, my 3rd party software doesn't stream videos correctly. Why?
Video navigation was changed in the May 2007 update. 3rd party software that does not support folders through network sharing will not work correctly. You'll have to contact the software developer for support.

30. How can I set up Windows Media Player 11 or Zune to share my media to my console?
For info about setting up sharing, see www.xbox.com/pcsetup.

31. Should I continue to use Windows Media Connect (WMC) to stream video to my Xbox 360?
Windows Media Connect can be used but is no longer supported outside of Windows Home Server. We strongly suggest people upgrade to Windows Media Player 11 or use the Zune software to receive the best experience for managing and streaming content to Xbox 360.

32. How can I get Windows Media Player 11 to stream MPEG-4 Part 2 and H.264 to my console?
By default, Windows Media Player 11 does not support MPEG-4 Part 2 and H.264. Your first option is to install a 3rd party MP4 DirectShow decoder to import MPEG-4 part 2 and H.264 files into your library. Once they are in your library they can be streamed to your console and they can be played from within Windows Media Player 11 on your PC.

An alternative approach is to rename all of your mp4 files to have an “.avi” file name extension. This will enable Windows Media Player 11 to import them into the library and will allow them to be played on your Xbox 360. To enable the playback of these files on the PC, you will still need to install an appropriate decoder on the PC.

33. I can't see my video files from the Zune software on my console. What's wrong?
Make sure that the folders containing the videos you want to share with your console are included in the Zune software's list of monitored folders.

34. I received a message that says a media update is required to play the content. When I download the update I get the message "The download could not be completed. Please try again later. Any points you used for this transaction have already been deducted from your balance and will not be deducted again" with error code 80070005. Explain.
You'll get this error if you previously downloaded the media update on another Xbox 360 console with the same profile. You are only allowed to download the update on one console per profile. You can work around this by creating a temporary Silver membership to download the update. Once it's downloaded, you will be able to use the update with any profile.

**35. What shortcuts can I use with my gamepad while using the Video area?
LB skips backward one chapter. RB skips forward one chapter. RT fast forwards. LT rewinds. Start toggles between play and pause. X and Y bring up the On Screen Display for more advanced options. While browsing through your lists of videos you can also push Start to automatically begin video playback using the bookmark if it exists bypassing the Resume/Restart page. You can also use RT or LT to page up or page down through lists of items.

**36. Why do I see the message “Updating content. This may take a few minutes. Please wait.” the first time when entering the Console video area?
To support grouping television and game videos your content metadata needs to be updated. Once this process is completed subsequent entries into the Video area will be very quick. Please be patient during the update process and allow it to complete updating all of your content metadata.

**37.What changes have you made to selecting the source for Videos, Music, and Pictures?
The source selection is now mapped to the X button for each of these areas. The Xbox 360 will remember the last source that you picked and default to that. We have also removed the computer affiliation from the System Blade and we now show a list of all the computers that you can connect to directly in the Select Source scene. This allows you to quickly jump between Windows Media Player 11 and Zune PC software media shares.

**38.How can I play music from my iPhone® and iPod Touch®?
Unfortunately the iPhone® and iPod Touch® uses a different mechanism for storing your music then a traditional iPod®. We are currently unable to play music from the iPhone® or IPod Touch®. You can still browse the pictures stored on these device through the Pictures area in the Xbox 360 dashboard.

**39.Can I play videos from my iPod®?
The Xbox 360 does not support playing videos from an iPod®.

Xbox 360 gets Divx/Xvid

Well details are now in about the winter update and the 360 will at last get Divx/Xvid support. (stick that in your pipe and smoke it PS3). The update seems OK, it could be better but there's always the spring update for things like more screen res support and the DRM problems...Anyway read on to see what you can expect come Dec 4th.

Here's details of the update from IGN.com

Xbox Originals -- While this one was announced a few weeks ago, that
doesn't take away from its magnitude. On the first day the update is available
you'll be able to download Halo, Fable, Crimson Skies, Psychonauts, Fuzion
Frenzy, and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex each for 1200 Microsoft Points
(US$15) on December 4. Plenty more backwards-compatible titles are in the
works.

Xbox Live Blade -- The first thing that you'll notice when you fire up your
console with the update installed is that the Live Blade has been reorganized a
bit. Messages and friends have been consolidated into one menu item to make room
for Inside Xbox, a new section that acts much like an RSS feed of content from
Xbox.com. There you'll find things like videos, pictures, news items, The Major
Nelson Minute, and pretty much whatever else the folks at Microsoft want to add
to it.

Marketplace Blade -- The hub for marketplace content has clearly received
the most attention when compared to the rest of the blades. Gone is the old set
of six gaudy buttons and in its place is a much more concise package. Now you'll
see four prominent options: There's Spotlight, New Arrivals, Game Store and
Video Store. Spotlight points out the hottest items that have been added to
Marketplace. Be it demos, videos, movies, arcade, whatever it is, you'll find
Xbox Live's most popular offerings there. New Arrivals is arranged similarly
only there you'll find the newest content, rather than the most popular. Game
Store and Video Store house all of their respective content types, be it demos
and Xbox Originals in the Game Store or TV Shows in the Video Store. It should
be noted that the Video Store can also be located on the Media Blade.

Xbox Live Arcade Hits --Gamers have been wondering why XBLA games rarely
see price drops. Well, this is your new bargain bin, ladies and gents. This one
is essentially Platinum Hits for Xbox Live Arcade games. Bankshot Billiards 2
and Lumines Live can be found here for 800 MP (US$10) with Marble Blast Ultra,
Small Arms, and Zuma Deluxe dropped to 400 MP (US$5).

Profile Expansion -- The oddest addition, and likely one that nobody saw
coming, is the biographical additions to the profile page. Now while editing
your online persona you can add in any name you like, as well as any location;
city and state, and a short bio about yourself. We were able to create the
oh-so-mature name of "s3cks with elephants" without a problem so we're sure to
see plenty of inappropriate and fake titles out there once the update drops.
Sure, that kind of defeats the purpose (the intention is to have a proper name
to go with someone's Gamertag), but it's too much fun making up obnoxious fake
names not to give it a try.

Enhanced Video Codec Support -- This addition will please the majority of
the video streaming Xbox 360 community. MPEG4 Part 2 support which, in layman's
terms, opens up DivX, Xvid, and Nero Digital compatible videos to being sent
through your Xbox 360 from your PC and onto your TV. What kind of content that
is, well, Microsoft had no comment on that.

Movie Previews -- Another exciting addition for the video and movie
enthusiasts of the world is the movie preview which can be accessed by simply
clicking on any piece of marketplace video media for purchase. Whether it was
movies or TV shows, every one that we clicked on had a short preview available
that played after a short buffering sequence. Who knew that Bad Girls from Mars
was worth renting?

Parental Controls -- The only item on the list for the parents of the world
to hang their hats on is the new Family Timer. For Mom and Dads out there who
feel like their children are sitting inside too long playing that blasted Xbox
360, Microsoft has given you the ability to set daily or weekly limits on the
amount of time the system can be turned on. Play for a second longer and the
system will shut down.

The Little Things -- There were two nuances that we saw while tooling
around that were worth mentioning as an aside to the main features listed above.
First, there's a snazzy new fade to black that happens when you turn the system
off. The Xbox 360 used to pop off instantly, and while it may be a small change,
we do like the gentler power-down procedure in comparison. Second, and this is
an even smaller detail, some of the Guide's menu items, such as your friends
list, now expand and contract depending on where you're scrolling. Essentially
it makes the gamertag you've landed on more prominently featured on the screen.
Again, it is small, but it's an improvement nonetheless.

Xbox 360 Winter/Fall Update 2007 Out Dec 4

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=175527 If you go to this page you will see the the information has been removed. From the looks of things the big added feature seems to be the ability to download Xbox 1 games. All I can say is whoopde Doo...Really? Do people care about this stuff? I never even play my xbox 1 games on the 360 via disc far less want to buy them. Do people really weant all these old games on there expensive HD Tvs? I know I don't...Well, OK, maybe if you have a PS3 and that's about all you can play:P. But come on? Right now the 360 has more AAA than you will have the time to play.

Oh! And us UK people will at last have the ability to download HD movies on to our 360. Of course that's if you have a 120gig HDD or have the Elite 360. I'm not interested in this feature either. £5 for a movie that you don't get to keep? Amazon USA at this moment in time has buy 1 get 1 free on Blu-ray at $19.99-$23. Why rent for a day when you can buy and keep forever for that price?...RUBBISH!!!!!!!

Just give us some good things Microsoft like full DivX support and maybe make it so the 360 can make me a cup of tea while I play my games... :D

UPDATE

It seems that this is true and now official about the ability to buy old xbox 1 games

'Xbox Originals' will be made available for download starting Dec. 4th as part of the Fall Update (the update's additional features have yet to be revealed). Each game can be purchased and downloaded for 1200 points ($15).In its press release, Microsoft explicitly named Halo, Psychonauts, Crimson Skies and Fable as titles for the Xbox Originals initiative, but did not confirm exactly which games will serve as the jumpoff: "This new service will launch with an array of blockbuster titles spanning the most popular genres from action-adventure to classic role-playing games." Third-party reports claim the preliminary lineup will include Halo, Fable, Indigo Prophecy, Crimson Skies, Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath Of Cortex and Burnout 3.

Happy Halloween

I've spent Halloween watching some horror movies. First I watched 'Flight of the Living Dead' and I thought that was pretty damn good...Funny/gory/cheesy/bad acting at times...Everything a good Horror movie needs and than I watched 'Event Horizon' (not seen it for a while) and that's more old school horror, it's kind off Hellraiser meets Alien meets The Shining meets The Haunting and it's pretty damn great.

Now I'm going to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street 3 (I Have Zombie 3 on the Horror Channel [UK] on at the moment and it's utter rubbish)

Whatever you do don't fall asleep.

Assassins Creed - Limited Edition

Here's the box and figure for the soon to be released (Mid Nov this year) Assassins Creed for the Xbox 360 and PS3

I really liked the Bioshock limited Edition but it was a bit over priced so I ended up just getting the standard version. This is about £60 and that's a lot for a game that you will probably get for £30 or less without the figure.

I'll probably pass unless I find it really cheap... I hope this game is as good as it looks but I have a feeling it could be a let-down.

Halo 3: The Master is back Chief

Halo 3...It's going to be big...NO!!! It's going to BE HUGE...Wellll at least that's what I heard on the news today.

Thing is? It bloody well is going to be huge, because it looks like after all this time, Bungie has made a damn fine single player game and probably the best multi-player gamer to date (so everybody says who has played it)

Here's the problem though...I got to play the Halo 3 Beta and I've got to be honest, it did not blow me away. In fact, I was bored playing it after a few days and while many/most played it non stop for the 3 weeks they had it, I just did not really care...Crackdown, the game that the beta came with was 10000 times more fun I found.

I did not play Halo 2 but I loved Halo: CE when the first Xbox came out. I had read that Halo 2 was not up to much so I gave it a miss...Now here we have Halo 3 something like 3 years later and I did not really get into the multi player beta and I have not played halo 2, so I've lost half the story...BUT I'M GETTING IT...WHY??????

Well, It seems that you don't really need to have played Halo 2 to get the most out of Halo 3, In fact, Halo 3 is more of a direct follow up to Halo: CE (I can read any story info I'm missing online anyway)...Halo 3 is the final chapter, so at last the story ends and it's not a crap ending like Halo 2 had (so I read)...Since I loved...no LOVED!!! Halo: CE I really want to play out the rest of the story and the single player game is supposed to be damn fine.

Now you also have the multi-player aspect of the game that I've played and did not really get into...Well it seems the things I did not like about the beta (not being about to custom your avatar for 1) are now sorted..YEA!!!After reading many, many reviews of Halo 3 I now want to give the multi player another chance, It really looks like a whole load of fun and there's zillions to do.

So I'm going ask santa for Halo 3 and Mass Effect because Christmas is just the perfect time to play these 2 games for me (free time...oh yea baby!)...Sure I could go out tomorrow and get Halo 3, but I won't (willpower now...willpower)..No, I'll wait until. Christmas...Really!!!;) Oh yea...I'll also need a new GOLD Account to go with it:P

Battlestar Galactica Cylon Kids

I shot this footage last year (about Aug 2006) of my wee niece and nephew just playing and having fun.

While I was sorting the footage onto DVD for my sister; I decided to edit some of it down and added some clips/sound effects/music/credits from the TV show Battlestar Galactica (remake show)

I think it turned out 'OK' for what it is and my family and the kids got a kick out of seeing it:).

Bioshockingly Good!

Well, I've had this game for 2 days now and i've put about 8 hours in over the weekend; and what an 8 hours they have been...Bioshock has to be one the the best games I've seen/heard on the 360, It's almost always just jaw dropping in its looks and it's the best sounding 360 game I've ever played.

I've put it on the 'hard' setting, as I do for most of the games I buy so I can get the most time out of them, and by doing this, get value for money...In the 8 or so hours I've put into Bioshock, I feel like I've already got my money worth and I've got so much left to do, as I've only just got to use the 2nd bathysphere (Think underwater lift) to take me to the next level.

I've jumped out of my skin a few times thanks to some really well done set pieces and I've had a fight with a big daddy (the deep sea diver guy in the pic).

This game also gives you some really tough choices in the form of saving or helping 'little sisters'. These Little Sisters were once normal little girls, but now they have been altered to harvest ADAM (a form or genetic material)from the dead. You can kill the protectors 'the Big Daddy' (not easy), and then you have 2 choices....Do you harvest the ADAM from the little sister or do you save the little sister by returning her to a normal little girl?

If you harvest the ADAM from her, then she does not survive but you get a lot of ADAM to use in the game...If you save her, then you will get a very happy little girl thanking you so much, but not as much ADAM (80 instead of 200 I think)...For many people this will be a no brainer as they will just go for the easy option to just harvest the ADAM from her as to make the game more easy...

I on the other hand had to save the first little sister simply because...Well how can you kill a child? Even if it's only in a game? (the game tries its best to explain that these littles sisters are not kids though and by killing them you're doing a good thing)....
I have a wee niece about the same age as these little sisters and I just could not bring myself to kill this virtual wee girl...The thank you I got from not killing her made me feel warm inside...Not many games can do that to you and it makes me wonder what other tough choices I will have to make during the course of playing this game....Did I do the right thing? Are these really monsters like the people in the game would have you believe? I'll have to play more to find that one out.

I kind of wish there was a 3rd choice though and that's to leave the little sister as she is...Happy to collect ADAM with her pal the big daddy by her side...The way she talks to big daddy in such a happy way makes you feel a bit sad for trying to kill one of them even if it's for the greater good (whatever that may be)

Anyway...Bioshock, if you have a PC and gfx card (with shader 3.0) or an Xbox 360, then go and check this out...The graphics/sound/story/fear/heart that this game has makes it something special.

8 hours in score = 9.5/10

Who's your Daddy

Tomorrow (Friday the 24th of Aug) the Xbox 360 and PC game 'Bioshock' goes on sale in the UK.

When I watched the E3 video in HD on my 360 last year I was blown away...I had no clue what the game was about but it looked amazing.

Since then, I read very little about it and just kept my fingers crossed for a good review...By this time I had it in my head this was an adventure captain Nemo type game (don't ask me why lol).

When the demo came up on marketplace a few weeks ago I was not blown away with it...Sure it looked amazing most of the time but it just was not what I expected...It was a horror type FPS (first person shooter)...Anyway, I played it and kinda went meh and that was that.

Then the reviews start to come in and I sit up and take notice, because this game has some amazing reviews across the boards...10/10...9.5...9.7...It just goes on and on.

So I go back to the demo with a different frame of mind and try it again...Then again and again and after a few plays I'm hooked...I almost missed out on this because I went into the game with the wrong mind set....tut tut!

Anyway, I now have this game on order and I can't wait to play it...I love a good story and this is the thing that's most appealing for me...I'll post my thoughts when I have it in my grubby wee mits.

Check out what it's about below

http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/home.html

Guitar Hero 2...I'm so dead!

I got 100% on the song 'Dead' in this amazing game...Probably one of the best games on the 360...It's sure as hell the most feel good fun you can have on the Xbox 360 at the moment.

When I got the game a few weeks ago I was not sure if I would be able to play it that well...Well I've done 100% on a few songs now, but since I really like this song on GH2, I had to post up a pic of my bands (JAMESROCKALOT;p) greatness...hehe!

ROCK ON!

ELVIS AND ME

Elvis died 30 years ago today, and if you don't know this then you must live on the moon. To celebrate the fact that Elvis is still as popular (in fact more so) than he was when he died, I'm going to tell you how I became an 'ELVIS fan'

I was 3 when Elvis died August the 16th 1977 and my mom was heartbroken; She had been an Elvis fan since she was a kid and had cried twice over Elvis in his lifetime. The first time was when Elvis got married to Priscilla and then when Elvis had died.

My mum was probably playing Elvis records since I was a baby, but my first memories of Elvis were of his movies and his first Christmas album; me, and my 2 sisters would play that album a lot (even if it was not Christmas). It was the Camden release and I remember the cover artwork so clear with Elvis in front of a lot of trees with his arms folded. As for the movies I remember them being on BBC 2 (I'm in Scotland) all the time and I always used to watched Blue Hawaii and GI Blues with my mum and even my babysitter at the time, she loved those movies so much and thinking back now, those are very happy memories...Elvis was already a big part of my very young life.

I was never a big fan of music when I was a kid and the very first song I can remember really loving was Making Your Mind by Bucks Fizz in 1982...Elvis music was always being played by my mum, but I was not a fan...Not yet anyway.

When I was at school and I was at a school dance, I would always dance like Elvis...I did not know this at the time though because I was really trying to dance like Shakin' Stevens who was huge at the time in the 80s and who was just being an 80s Elvis using a 50s style...Shaky was cool by this time and Elvis was not (at least for a kid of my age)...I would never admit to even hearing an Elvis song because you would just be laughed at school.

By this time my 2 sisters were Elvis fans...yep they were now fans, who had Elvis pillows and Elvis tapes, when we were on holiday they brought Elvis tapes back with them...By this time though I was what you might call a 'closet fan', There was a few songs on those tapes I really liked, but I had a reputation to uphold as a kid in the 80s and slagging off Elvis was what I had to do if It was called for in a conversation with my mates, and I would even say to my sisters "how can you listen to that rubbish" while I would listen to songs like 'I Slipped I stumbled I fell' in secret on my walkman...Yea, yea...I was a kid and kids will be kids!

I was 15 and pretty much went through school and the rest of my childhood as an Elvis hater…Elvis had been such a big part of my life because of my mum, that by this time I really did not like Elvis...Even those days of sneaking my sisters tapes to listen to a few Elvis songs I liked were long gone...My sisters had not been Elvis fans for a while as they were now huge 'New Kids on the Block' fans...my mom had not been playing Elvis much either for a number of years...Yep, Elvis was a thing of the past for me....BUT!!!! Then it happened...

I was sitting one night (no Elvis pun intended) with my sister Michelle and we were just having a chat and listening to music while mum and dad had a few drinks and they were a bit under the weather...My youngest sister had went to bed and me and Michelle put one of her Elvis tapes on...It was a tape she got from one of her friends years before, but she never listened to it much, If at all, as I have said; Elvis was not somebody she would listen too anymore...Anyway, we put this tape on and we just sat in a dimly lit living room singing these songs and having such a fun time...She laughed at the fact I knew a lot of these songs, and of course it was only now that she knew I had been sneaking those tapes of hers years before...I had not heard this tape though and I was blown away with it...I loved every second of it...This was not the Elvis I had ever heard before? That's because this was Elvis in the 70s and they did not have anything of Elvis in the 70s on tape or LP in my house...

The tape was ' Elvis as Recorded at Madison Square Garden' and that night I had just saw the light of how great Elvis was...I was an instant fan and spent the next year listening to that tape so many times that I wore it out…Really, I broke it and I was devastated...I was 16 now though and working, so I had cash to buy myself some Elvis music, and what better way to do this than to buy a CD player and replace my Madison Square Garden tape with a CD of it...Yep it was Elvis in the 90s and this was 1990, I got a double cd of Elvis Greatest hits and the Madison Square Garden cd...I decided I liked the 70s stuff best and spent the next few months just buying 70s cds like 'ON STAGE'...Sometimes though I would get stuff I thought was 70s (because of the album artwork) and ended up with late 60s...The 68 Comeback Special, Elvis in Person to name but a few and slowly but surely (sorry;P) I got to like a more wide range of Elvis music.

It was not until a few years later though when the Complete 50's Masters came out and my mum got me it for Christmas...It was then that this 70's Elvis fan was just about to be even more blown away...WOW! How could I pass all this stuff by? What else had Elvis recorded? I wanted to hear everything, so I got book after book and I spent a lot of time learning about Elvis, and the more I read, the more fascinated I got and over the course of the 90's I collected a huge collection of Elvis music, I used books like the ‘Elvis Sessions' books by Joseph A. Tunzi to try and get every song Elvis ever sang, no matter how silly the song was, for example, if it was from one of his mid 60's movies...

I wanted them all and I spent time listening to them all over and over until I knew each one word for word...Today there's probably not an Elvis song I don't know every word to...If it's been released, I have it.

I also went back to those Elvis movies I watched as a kid and got them all over time on VHS, the more I heard/saw/read about Elvis the more of a fan I became...No matter what mood I was in there was always an Elvis song to fit it and I think that's why I'm a fan...Elvis just has a way to make you feel good...His voice when he sings, or that cheeky smile in even the most poor of Elvis movies just makes you smile and feel happy.

I love such a wide variety of music now from The Carpenters to Meat Loaf but nobody even comes close to the way Elvis music touches my heart.

30 years since Elvis died and 15 years since I became a fan, Elvis has been part of my life since I was born and always will be until the day I die.

Long live the king!

For all things Elvis visit

IN THE SUMMER TIME

Well the weather has not been that great but at least there's been loads to keep me happy. In fact there's been so much that I've hardly been near a PC even though there's been loads of great stuff happening worthy of news....E3 has been and went and there's was a load of great content on Xbox LIVE ...The demos were not that great this year as there was not that many of them, but there were loads of HD trailers of some great looking titles coming in 2007....It's a pity that GTA 4 has been pushed back until Easter 2008, but in a way that's better for me as there's just so many quality titles out this year, I think it's a good move.

Top surprise for me at E3 this year was the Ace Combat 6 demo. I never like these kind of games, but after playing through the demo about 20 times, I have to say, I love this game and Can't wait for the release in Nov 2007.

July has been a funny old month for me with emotions running high...Some of my family decided to treat me like shite for no apparent reason and that hurt me a lot...It took me a few weeks to get over it, but what does not kill you makes you stronger right? It seems the more you do for people the more they crap on you and family have a way of ripping your heart out...I never seen it coming...but oh well...You live and learn.

On a positive note, my estranged sister Michelle turned things around by praising me to the max...after years of put down and mental abuse, she took me by surprise by acting like a Disney movie..Really...It was that mushy; but it felt really good and for the first time in many years It felt like I had 2 sisters and I must say; That was a most wonderful feeling....Will it last? I don't know...I really hope it does, but I'm not expecting miracles. (Christmas in July anybody?)

Elvis died 30 years ago on the 16th of Aug 1977...I'll be adding pics of my Elvis Collection and talking about the King and how I became a fan...Look out for that on my web site http://www.jamestalkalot.myby.co.uk/elvismain.htm

I'm back!

Sorry for the rubbish pun in the title of this post...Why is it rubbish? Well it's rubbish because I've not been able to post because of my bloody sore back..lol!

Anyway I am back as it's now no place as sore as it was..At least I can now sit at the PC for more than 10 mins without feeling like the Tin Man from Wizard of OZ without any oil.

I wonder what great things have been going on around the net when I've been gone? Well I guess I better take a look. If I see anything cool I'll be sure to post it

LEGO® Star Wars™: The Complete Saga

Building on the success of both LEGO® Star Wars™ "block-buster" videogames, LEGO® Star Wars™: The Complete Saga enables families to play through the events of all six Star Wars movies in one videogame for the first time ever. Developer Traveller's Tales takes full advantage of the unique capabilities of all three next-generation consoles, while also adding new characters, new levels and new features. Players can build and battle this fall on the Wii™, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360™ videogame system from Microsoft. Traveller's Tales is also creating an entirely new Nintendo DS™ version, developed brick by brick from the ground up.

Features
Families can commemorate the 30th anniversary of Star Wars by playing through the events of all six Star Wars movies in one videogame for the first time ever.
Solve puzzles that encourage creative thinking through the use of teamwork and unique building situations only possible in a LEGO galaxy far, far away.
Adds new levels, new characters and new features to the fun, creativity and tongue-in-cheek humor that made LEGO® Star Wars™: The Video Game and LEGO® Star Wars™ II: The Original Trilogy such huge hits.
New levels, such as Episode II's never-before-played high-speed pursuit of bounty hunter Zam Wessell, further complete the entire Star Wars story.
New playable characters like Watto, Zam Wessell, Boss Nass and more bring the total count to over 160.
The upgraded Character Customizer includes all Prequel Trilogy characters for the first time, while also expanding its customization options well beyond those in LEGO Star Wars II, for millions more possibilities. Create cross-Trilogy mash-up characters like Han Windu and Lando Amidala.
New game features include enhanced Force powers, new power-ups, and a new Challenge Mode.
Levels from the original LEGO Star Wars are revamped to meet the gameplay evolutions of LEGO Star Wars II.
For the first time, every Prequel Trilogy character -- even those without the Force -- can build, as well as jump into and out of the vehicles they create.
Redesigned "Mos Espa Podrace" and "Gunship Cavalry" levels now encourage the open vehicle gameplay of LEGO Star Wars II.
New bonus levels and 10 additional Bounty Hunter Missions offer new challenges in the Prequel Trilogy.

Broken Sword: The Movie

Taken from IGN.com

CastleBright Studios will reportedly bring the Revolution Software videogame Broken Sword to the big-screen as a live-action feature film. CastleBright toppers Jay Douglas and Nav Gupta will produce Broken Sword with the blessing of Revolution's Charles Cecil, the creator of the game. "Broken Sword is the kind of complex story every producer dreams about, rich with mystery and adventure, so for me, this is a real honor," Douglas told ComingSoon.net. The site adds that "initial talks have begun with leading directors and screenwriters from such films as Harry Potter, Casino Royale, X-Men to name a few." ComingSoon says the potential franchise will begin with the first game title, The Shadow of the Templars (released stateside as Circle of Blood).
